LP Gas Traces Roots to Pennsylvania 100 Years Ago

2012 Southeastern Convention & International Propane ExpoHarrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Propane Gas Association (PAPGA) will commemorate Propane’s Centennial Celebration by participating in several special events.

PAPGA members will be attending the 2012 Southeastern Convention & International Propane Expo, April 14-16 in Atlanta, Georgia. This is a once in a lifetime occasion when the propane community will come together to recognize a major milestone.  The celebration officially kicks-off with a Clean Air Rally featuring a parade of autogas vehicles of all types – on and off-road – and culminates in a walk down “New Technology Lane’.

May 16–18 at the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem in Bethlehem, PA, PAPGA is hosting a tri-state meeting “Honoring our Past, Energizing our Future”, in conjunction with the New York and New Jersey Propane Gas Associations.

In addition to industry events, the Pennsylvania Propane Gas Association will be launching additional QR codes giving consumers easy access to propane safety and educational information.

May 17th, 1912 is the actual date propane was initially used to light lamps and cook meals for John Gahring at his farmhouse in Waterford, PA. Gahring’s son-in-law, Dr. Walter Snelling discovered propane in Western PA in 1910 while researching vapors being emitted by gasoline.

“Our members are proud that Pennsylvania has bragging rights of being the state where propane was discovered and are eager to participate in our upcoming activities,” said Shelby Metzger, executive director for PAPGA.  “We are looking forward to honoring our past, celebrating the present and energizing our future.”

The Pennsylvania Propane Gas Association is a member-focused trade association providing services that communicate, educate and promote the propane industry in Pennsylvania. The association was formed in 1947 to offer opportunities to learn through training and networking with peers, and to aid with legislative issues that contribute to operating a safe and successful industry.
